We did it! GoGlobal is a WRAP!
We traveled across the world, from Cape Town to Boston, to share our life-changing if i could… internship programme with students and graduates in the USA at the GoGlobal Expo in Boston on Sunday, 28 September. Check us out on the GoGlobal Exhibitors page
Hundreds of visitors came through the GoGlobal Expo doors, eager to pursue opportunities for meaningful travel—study abroad, overseas work and international volunteering. At noon on Sunday, Expo organiser Jeff Minthorn visited our booth and asked if we were ready for the doors to open… little did we know it would be a whirlwind for four straight hours! We handed out hundreds of pens, buttons and brochures to expo visitors, and gave many more to our if i could… US Ambassadors and universities SIT, Mount Holyoke and Lesley University to hand out to students throughout the coming months.
We met some amazing and inspiring young people, and enjoyed chatting with every one of you. We hope you were inspired, and that many of you will join us in Cape Town, or in our newest destination New Delhi!
if i could… Cape Town alumni Kaitlin spent the day with us, talking with interested students and applicants about her experience working for an arts organisation in South Africa. Visitors were hanging on her every word and asking all the right questions! Kaitlin shares, “Today was a spectacular day. I met some really inspiring young people who would be perfect for the if i could… programme and our host organisations!”
Mike also helped out, telling prospective interns about the natural beauty of Cape Town, some of the amazing work our organisations do, and how an internship in the development sector with if i could… is life changing. Mike did the bulk of our sign-ups on the spot, “We registered over 50 applicants today, many more than we expected! GoGlobal was a great opportunity to get our name out there and tell young people about if i could… and what an awesome experience it is.”
What makes if i could… unique is that we tailor-make internships to give you valuable work experience, build your resume, and provide a cultural and life-enriching experience. We give international students and graduates a taste of life in another country while they work with organisations that make a difference and address poverty and community development.
Our Communications Manager Jenn Warren spoke mostly with visitors interested in our latest destination, New Delhi, India, and spent time with the more experienced applicants who stopped by, “We had a substantial number of more experienced, mature visitors to our table today, including students between their bachelor and masters, graduate students, mid-career shifters, families and retirees. What makes us different is that we only place in the development sector – so if you are looking to use your skills simply to help others or change your career and break into the international development sector, if i could… if the perfect fit no matter your age!” She continues, “It’s fantastic to know that our programme attracts all ages and experience levels. As a small company who prides ourselves on that personal touch, we have the ability to cater for everyone.”
“if i could… offers experience that is not just about observation or shadowing; it is a hands-on experience that involves significant responsibilities and a relatively high degree of capacity-building supervision and support. We have found that carefully targeted internships are the most beneficial for both our interns and host organisations,” says if i could… Director Lindy Briginshaw.
The GoGlobal Expo was an exciting opportunity to share what’s new in the if i could… programme, as we spread our wings and expand our internships to New Delhi, India. We hope to participate again next year!
